Deep Cricket Night are located in Chicago. You always gotta love the cello in a band, but it’s hard to hear on this recording.

I really, really love this song. The beat is so catchy and uplifting, and it’s so great seeing a talented couple like Freda Love and Jake Smith make such great music together. They’re definitely at the center of the Bloomington music scene.

The Vulgar Boatmen are a legendary Indiana band. This song is one of my favorites. The members are also in other great bands, such as the Mysteries of Life, Gentleman Caller, Sophia Travis and Some Girls. And Dale was in ’80s band the Gizmos, who performed the previous night at the Patio.

This song would be a great theme for any bad-ass girl out there. Actually, I think it’s definitely about Sophia herself—on top of being a great musician, she’s also on the Bloomington city council.
